Young voices in the social debate: Seminar for upper secondary school teachers
Welcome to an inspiring pre-Christmas event hosted by Fritt Ord. The day will be devoted to two of the most important issues needed to keep up to date academically, i.e., citizenship and democracy.
At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, 1 December, at Fritt Ord’s premises at Uranienborgveien 2 in Oslo.
There will be lectures, discussions and presentations. Our goal is to find approaches to the topic that will appeal to young people, mean something and carry weight. We will accomplish this by hearing presentations by members of the Youth Freedom of Expression Council, and philosopher Lars Svendsen will talk about the word “I” in non-fiction texts. Do we overestimate the importance of using the first person when we write? Literary scholar Janne Stigen Drangsholt writes about citizenship. What can we learn today from how female writers have challenged the notion of who should be considered valued members of society?
The seminar will be organised by the Fritt Ord Foundation Competition for Upper Secondary Schools in collaboration with the National Organisation for the Teaching of Norwegian. The Fritt Ord Foundation Competition addresses pupils and teachers in upper secondary school. The project encourages pupils to submit contributions on the topics of democracy and citizenship.
The seminar is free of charge and will focus on upper secondary school teachers. The full programme is still being drawn up, but interested parties are welcome to sign up already now. Sign up by writing to registering@frittord.no.
