Call for applications: Fritt Ord Grants for Master's Projects 2026
The Fritt Ord Foundation hereby invites applications for grants for master’s projects that deal with freedom of expression from the legal perspective and/or the culture of expression in a broader, cultural sense. Key topics may include the role of technology in freedom of expression and in the culture of expression, or the relationship of minorities and other groups to freedom of expression.
The grants are for NOK 40 000 each.
We aspire to support projects that are critical and analytical. Funding may be provided as general support to offset the cost of being a student or to cover specific expenses. Projects requiring support for relevant travel, research and data collection will be given priority.
Applications are to be submitted by Friday, 5 June, on Fritt Ord’s application form.
Please include the title of your project, the question(s) to be studied, and details of your methodology and theoretical perspectives. Attach a project description, along with your CV, academic transcript and a recommendation from your supervisor.
There will be two application deadlines for the 2026/2027 academic year (compared with three deadlines in the past): Friday, 5 June and Friday, 25 September.
The contact for the grants is project manager Joakim Lie, ‘joakim@frittord.no’:mailto:joakim@frittord.no.
Applications will be considered by Fritt Ord’s administration and board.
